Getting Resourceful With Renewable Resources

My students need opportunities to engage in hands on STEM activities that will increase their understanding of renewable energy sources. They will use this knowledge to help promote renewable energy in their community.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

4th grade is an exciting year for students. The walk through the door full of enthusiasm and wonder. Our students are especially excited because they are given the opportunity to learn the required standards through unique hands on expedition projects that engage them in Science, Math, and Language Arts and focus on character building.

The majority of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are not afforded opportunities to engage in hands on learning that gets them involved in their communities.

My Project

These materials will make a difference to my students by giving them hands on experience working with renewable energy sources. The solar energy kit will provide students with a deeper understanding of how a solar cell converts energy from the sun into power that can potentially be used for a variety of purposes. Additionally, the windmill activity lab will give allow students the opportunity to build s windmill that converts wind power into useable energy. These lab investigators will be the catalyst for student’s research and solution based inquiries to tackle real world energy problems.

Giving students opportunities to investigate alternative energy sources while looking for ways to help their community is the big idea of this project.

Through this inquiry based learning, students begin to see themselves as vehicles of change for their community and for the world. It's not just about grades and test scores. It's about inspiring students to become active citizens to make a better world.
