My students need these videos and computer speakers for a history course that targets ELLs and students with IEPs that have failed the regents in the past.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Using film to teach history can be a great way to expose students to great films, but also get them to learn about major historical periods in world and global history. This class will making learning fun and allow them to use their analytical skills to in preparation for the Regents exam in June
My school's population is comprised of students that are reading far below grade level.
We have a large number of students that have Individual Education Plan's due to a wide ranged of disabilities as well as a significant number of student's that have newly immigrated to the United States and are English Language learners. Since most of them are visual learners teaching with film will ensure that everyone is learning.
My Project
In this class, students will study modern history and its origins through the medium of film. This will be done through viewing, writing, and discussing both historical and contemporary pieces on topics related to the political, social, economic, and racial history of the United States and the world. Grouped thematically, students will examine the historiography of slavery, voting rights, the Holocaust, the Second World War, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and Vietnam. Besides examining these historical events, students will examine the legacy of racism poverty, corruption, patriotism, civics, and ideology on contemporary American and World culture. In addition to each film’s historical and cultural importance, the course will also concentrate on film appreciation.
The films and materials for this course will better prepare my students for the regents in June.
The course is a survey of films connected to United States History and Global History & Geography themes. These themes will be explored using various print, photographs, film, video, and other sources. Students are engaged to read and understand historical content and concepts as a historian and to develop critical historical thinking skills aligned with the common-core.
