Our students worked extremely hard to create innovative projects and demonstrate their learning at the annual STEAM fair. Students used their own nintendo switches to create models and demonstrate the natural phenomena they were presenting. Other students used a tablet to create digital art using proportionality and scale factors. Another used his device to control a robotic arm! \r\n\r\nStudents were inspired by the work of their peers and enthusiastically tried to win the donated prizes. They saw a new range of possibilities for the technology besides just gaming. Students were most excited about discovering how a switch could be incorporated into a presentation. Students started just joining us to play and eventually we became the E-Sports team for the Spring 2025 season. \r\n\r\nThis created a community of students who wanted to play, who wanted to improve their strategy, and who wanted to make friends. We had students who had never played before, get coached by other students who play switch games competitively and non-competitively. It was great seeing my students grow in all those aspects. Students working on their own patience and being able to teach skills to others. Students willing to be vulnerable and take a chance with something they had never done before. Students even started mini groups and would come early to school to practice and work with each other all on their own!\r\n\r\nWe feel grateful for the opportunity and acceptance this brought students. One of our game club students, joined our E-Sports team, and his record was good enough to make the championship bracket nationally for the E-Sports league we played in. This motivated students to come to class and be open to trying math. Math for many is a subject that contains a lot of previous trauma for the students that they carry with them into high school. \r\n\r\nStudents were willing to come to class and open to the learning that my co-teacher and I provided. We needed more motivation than our engaging lesson and this made a true difference in our classroom this year. \r\n\r\nStudents who also do not eat school lunch, school breakfast, or might not have enough to eat at home also benefitted from this in our classroom. They were willing to come to class and work hard in order to get extra goodies. Our students are willing to math and work for their yummy snacks. They are truly appreciative that they have a safe space and that the snacks are providing an encouraging culture and that they are welcome to try and work hard. We truly appreciate your donation and the encouragement you helped us provide our students.","fullyFundedDate":1737175467346,"projectUrl":"project/improving-mental-health-through-math-sna/8805099/","projectTitle":"Improving Mental Health through Math Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9271533_orig.jpg?crop=2550,2550,x0,y514&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726755775613","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9271533"},{"teacherId":242401,"projectId":8865563,"letterContent":"I am thrilled to share that your generous donation has fully funded my Nearpod account on DonorsChoose. It has made such a difference in students. Having the snacks to earn as motivation, has improved their attitudes towards math in a sense. \r\n\r\nStudents struggle in math. They historically have had bad math experiences either due to teachers, not enough differentiation in learning capabilities, or math anxiety. Students come in already fearing and hating math. Me and my co-teacher understand the anxiety that math and the new curriculum are causing students, and we want students to give math a chance instead of shutting down. \r\n\r\nHaving the snacks has provided us with the opportunity to have a rewards system in class. It provides them an immediate reward for working hard in class. The new curriculum makes the students work together, think on their own, try the new skills, and then come back and reevaluate what they missed. We also use this during S3 where students can come and do revisions or complete missing work. They earn snacks also during lunch for asking clarifying questions or for staying in S3.","fullyFundedDate":1727027946122,"projectUrl":"project/improving-mental-health-through-math-sna/8803868/","projectTitle":"Improving Mental Health through Math Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Soto","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9271533_orig.jpg?crop=2550,2550,x0,y514&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726755775613","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9271533"},{"teacherId":9796235,"projectId":8862894,"letterContent":"The first semester of Book Club was a huge success thanks to your generosity.
