Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so fortunate to teach an amazing group of differently-abled kids. My students are 4th - 6th graders who we are preparing for the big transition to intermediate school. We work on everything from reading and math to social skills to physical education and even personal hygiene. In my classroom, we teach it all.
Every day my students work to overcome obstacles that would defeat the average person.
They want to be just like their general education peers and work every day on similar projects and assignments tailored for their learning levels. I am proud to be their teacher on a daily basis.
My Project
There is a big change for all students when they go from elementary to middle school, and it is no different for my amazing students. My students will need to know how to manage supplies like binders and notebooks to take from class to class, how to handle and count money so they can go out into the community every week and how to use a lock and key for their gym locker.
My students need time to practice with these supplies so that they can be proficient with them before they start middle school in the fall.
These supplies will not only be great teaching tools for my students, it will help them feel like they are ready to move on to the next step in their lives.
