Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is very interactive. My students are always doing something new. They are always growing and learning.
I teach in a very high poverty area.
Some of my students do not have computers at home. They are not as technologically advanced as many students their age. In my room I try to expose them to as much technology as I can. This has been successful the last few years, but some of the materials are starting to wear out.
My Project
My listening center headphones are starting to wear out. Some headphones you can only hear through one side and others don't work at all. This is making the use of listening center very difficult for the students.
I have moved from 3rd to 1st grade and needed to buy new books and listening centers to meet the needs of these younger students. I hang the books in bags on a wire rack. As I was doing this I ran out of bags. I have about 12 more listening centers that need bags to keep the books and CDs in good condition.
Finally, moving into 1st grade has made me change some classroom procedures. With the students being so young, they need to have name badges that display their way home and their lunch so they do not get on the wrong bus or get the wrong lunch. Having lanyards with protective covers will make this so much smoother.
These donations are very important to my class.
They will help my students become better readers. Being able to hear words being read is proven to help students become better readers. This will help them become better learners across the board. The bags for the listening center books and CDs will help the books and CDs last through many years and many students. The badges will help everyone at the school identify my students and make sure they make it home the correct way.
