Believe it or not, planning for the coming school year starts now! Every year there are craft supplies and learning materials I like to stock up on to begin the new school year ready for my little learners.
I teach 22 wonderfully diverse students that represent cultural, economic and family diversity.
We teach acceptance and a peaceful approach to learning together. Our school is in an urban setting. We are also an inclusive school which means that every class has students with special needs.
My Project
I am asking for craft sticks, wooden and letter beads and necklace string. Along with highlighter tape with wooden dispenser which I use to have students hi-lite word parts when we write together. A rainbow of 6 material boxes, 6 clear storage bins, Craft cups and a people shape project kit. I love for the children to use hand pointers when they 'read the room' and wiki stix to make letter and number shapes. The children will use the craft materials for fun at 'free play' time. They'll enjoy making necklaces with the assorted beads and string. We will use the people shaped craft sticks as 'equity sticks', which means I pull their name out of a can during lessons to call on them or give them opportunities to share.
To help my teaching of the new common core I am asking for Fiction and Non Fiction Comprehension kit to use during reading time, along with Teaching Comprehension Skills Center, 3 sets of 10 common core daily math journals will be used during our daily math time.
There is so much that goes into teaching a classroom of eager learners that one can't help but plan ahead.
I rely on givers like you to fund our class projects because my public school has limited discretionary funds that pay for the kinds of things I need. I am the kind of teacher that will not be stopped by budget cuts. If I feel my students need something, I find a way!!
Thank you for taking the time to consider my project.
