Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students range from tiny 3-year old preschoolers to 14-year old 8th graders who are taller than me but they all have one thing in common: they struggle with some aspects of their communication skills. As part of the special education team, I directly serve students with speech and language needs but I also support the language and early literacy skills of our general education students.
My students are brimming with questions, ideas, and imagination.
Although many of my students face many challenges on a daily basis: approximately 95% of our students are low income and receive free or reduced lunch and 40% of our students are English Language Learners; they are excited to learn and grow!
My Project
The past two school years have been so strange and different for my students. I have been focusing on purchasing items and activities for online learning that I have yet to restock my actual classroom for next school year.
As we hopefully transition back to full in-person learning in the fall of 2021, my classroom needs some new supplies to welcome my students back to school.
I'm requesting 4 new books that talk about the changing of the seasons as well as celebrating the diversity of my students. I am looking to refill some needed office supplies including ink for my printer, chalk markers to brighten up my whiteboard, new boarder for my bulletin boards, and new laminating sheets to make visual communication items more durable.
