Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is one of self-esteem, discovery, thinking outside of the box, and reaching beyond what anyone thought was possible for my students. I have a fifth grade self contained class in a low-income, high poverty neighborhood.
All of my students have some form of learning disability but, I don't see that.
Each and every one of my students has the ability, and desire, to reach for more. For some of them, school is the most stable environment they have, with the adults as their "parents". I strive to provide not just a classroom with multiple learning paths, but a family setting in which they feel safe, loved, and wanted.
My Project
A huge component of modern day learning is technology. However, the funding for up to date technology is limited. I want to provide my students with a color printer that they can print out graphics, graphs, and illustrations to accompany their writing work. Additionally, we can print pictures of our events, field trips, and projects to post around our classroom to promote positive self esteem.
When my students use the school provided laptops, they are working on reading and math programs.
Many of these programs come with instructional videos or have the ability to have their stories read to them. In order to really attend to the program, or comprehend the book being read, the students need their own set of earbuds. With the earbuds, the students will be able to work at their own pace without the distraction of 12 other books or programs being loud at the same time.
