Getting Our Hands on Math

Help me give my students get the math manipulatives they need to help support their math instruction.

My Project

My students love math, but I want more for them when they walk into the our classroom. I want them ready to learn new and exciting things every day.

For a lot of students in the classroom, I am the one thing they know they will see on a day to day basis and that I am a constant fixture in their lives.

My students come from families that don't know where their next meal might be, they may be living with a family member or they are taking care of siblings while their parents work the third shift. Many of my students come from households that speak a language other than English and attend our Title I school where the budget gets cut more and more affecting the education they are receiving.

When you were in school, most of the time math was taught with the teacher at the board and the students at their seats with a pencil and paper completing math problems and memorizing them.

I want my students to learn these math skills by using hands-on manipulatives that will enhance their mastery.

My students need math materials at their fingertips when students think they are playing, they soon realize they are learning and taking in everything they are doing to memory with memorization. Problem-solving is one of the hardest concepts to teach and learn, that is why the self-checking cards for my students will be beneficial. The magnetic base ten blocks will allow students to manipulate place value. The other two games will enrich my students learning and mastery.

Please help me give my students math skills and learning that they can use for a lifetime to come.
