Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in an inner city school where 97% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Our classrooms represent a large percentage of economically disadvantaged students who are also English language learners.

Our students are hungry to learn and need tools to help them achieve their goals.

They are full of energy, love playing sports, and want to take advantage of any after school activities but for the past couple of years we have not had the resources and funds to offer fun after school activities for our students.

Our students deserve nothing but the best and deserve to have a Sports program that will help them grow as athletes.

My Project

Our students love playing volleyball and basketball but do not have the equipment they need to play. The balls we currently use are torn up, run down, and air leaks out of them. With these professional volleyballs and knee pads the girls will be more confident, feel encouraged, and proud to play. We will able to do fun drills, play more games, and the girls will be able to dive for the ball with certainty that their knees will not get all scraped up.

Our students have not had a sports program in a couple of years so with this sports equipment, our students will have the tools they need to to become great athletes.

Some of the teachers have volunteered their time after school so that the students can have some after school sports teams they can join. I think having new equipment will also encourage more teachers to want to coach.
