Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income families with very few resources outside of school. My students love to read and go on adventures through the books they read. The students in my class are kind, caring, and always wanting to help. Reading books inside of the classroom allows the students to bond, share their stories, and just be kids.
My students could spend the whole school day reading if I let them.
I make sure I come up with fun and creative ways for the students to read, such as reading with flashlights in the dark, reading outside on sunny days, and allowing them to pick their "place" in the room to read. I love that my students love to read, make personal connections with the stories, and can learn from what they read.
My Project
My students love love love to READ, and what better way by having access to over 2,000 books that I continuoisly add each year to my classroom library. Since the school is an International Studies school, I have ordered or recieved many books on international topics. The classroom needs a better way to access these books, and it allows my students to continue being Global citizens.
Adding this library cart will significantly help the students easily find the books that they want to read, practice staying organized, gain skills when having the job as the "librarian" by caring for the books and putting them into their proper places.
Many of my students have younger siblings that they talk with about our classroom library. Those siblings are always saying they can't wait to come to my class to read all the books they've heard about.
