This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Learning and memorizing math facts is an essential skill for all students. Playing games and earning a prize sticker is the best way to get these math facts to stick. Students fluent with math facts will be confident and able to solve math problems with ease and efficiency. I am requesting 3 Pizza Company games that go along with our Osmo system that we already have in our classroom. This game allows the students to run their own pizza shop, making custom pizza creations and providing change for paying customers. We are also requesting an Osmo World Games kit- where the students are practicing building numbers (example: 3+1= 4 or 2+2= 4) and breaking numbers apart (5=2+3 or 1+4) which is a key skill in 1st & 2nd grade math.
These games provide real life application of math skills.
The kids are learning so much while having a blast!
I am also asking for stickers to be used as incentives. Students love these stickers that they earn by completing their required minutes on their online programs such as IReady and Imagine Learning. They decorate their water bottles and homework folders with stickers that reflect their favorite things and personality.
