This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The high-interest books and graphic novels I’m requesting will engage my students in a way traditional textbooks might not. For many older teens, especially those who may struggle with conventional reading materials or have limited interest in standard classroom texts, graphic novels and popular book titles provide an accessible entry point into literature. By offering stories that are visually engaging and often address real-life issues teens face, these resources will help to build literacy skills, promote critical thinking, and inspire a love of reading. These books will also encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book, developing their vocabulary, comprehension, and analytical skills in a format they find approachable and enjoyable.
My primary goal is to foster a passion for reading by providing materials that are directly relevant to students’ lives and interests.
I aim to create a classroom library with books that reflect diverse perspectives and genres, offering something for everyone. This variety will help improve students' literacy levels, support their academic success, and build their confidence as readers. By engaging them with high-quality literature, I hope to cultivate lifelong readers who see books as sources of knowledge, empathy, and enjoyment.
My students are resilient, curious, and eager to connect with stories that resonate with their experiences and aspirations. Many come from diverse backgrounds, bringing unique perspectives and a drive to better understand the world around them. They are creative thinkers who thrive when they feel seen, represented, and respected. By providing them with literature that reflects their identities and challenges, I hope to empower them to explore new ideas and discover their own voices.
