it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This project would provide me with all of the supplies I need to teach an introduction to knitting elective to sixth, seventh and eighth grade students in my school district.
As a small district, our students do not have many options for elective courses, and due to our rural location, students do not have many options for exploring hobbies and the arts outside of school.
This project has been a dream of mine for years, as I am a self taught knitter, and find that knitting not only keeps my hands busy, but lowers my stress and anxiety. I believe that my students could benefit from this as well, and that additionally, they would find the act of creating something that they can wear extremely satisfying and empowering.
I want to give the gift of knitting to my students, not only to provide them with the opportunity to explore the fiber arts, but to give them a chance to experience the joy of creating a wearable project to gift or keep.
The items in this project will be used to teach the basics of knitting, and will allow each student in my class to make either a hat or a scarf to keep or gift to a loved one!
