My Students
Second grade is such a wonderful year of learning. We have so many different types of learners with many different needs. I have had the privilege of teaching students with Autism, Gifted & Talented, students with ADHD, students who receive Speech & Language Services, and students who are considered typically developing. We have a diverse set of needs that need to be met every day.
My students have unique traits and backgrounds and when we come together they make our classroom feel like a family.
I am so excited for the learning that my students will show this year. They will learn to take time to do quality work and let their effort shine. These kids come from families who support and nurture their creative drive and give them the tools they need to be successful later in their education and life.
My Project
Everyone loves games and they're an essential part of childhood. They teach skills like communication and collaboration, problem solving, teamwork and social skills, conflict resolution, strategic thinking, and more! These skills are applicable not only in the classroom but in "real life" as well.
Providing engaging learning games to support our curriculum makes learning fun and helps kids look forward to school.
If something as simple as putting a math or reading skill into a game makes kids willing to participate and be excited about learning, then why wouldn't you do that? These games go along with the standards in our curriculum and can be used for fast-finishers, rotation activities, with parent volunteers, or intervention.
Activities like the Hot Dots are fun and offer fast feedback, while being educational. Collaborative activities like the Word Family Flip Books will make reading more exciting while we master vowel and consonant patterns. Other items, like the claw machine and prize wheel, will be fun incentives for students to work for when they master their sight words and math facts.
Games and learning go hand in hand and we're excited to use them in our classroom!
