This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is undergoing some big changes due to redistricting this year. Our school will be made up of 90% hispanic students, and 75% of our students will be ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. We are also a Title 1 school, 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Some may see these demographics as a challenge, but I see it as an opportunity to make a significant difference!

These students require a great deal of support, both academically and emotionally. I am honored to be given the chance to do just that.

My Project

For many students, middle school is the first time they encounter combination locks. This can create some anxiety, on top of the anxiety they already feel about starting at a new school where all the routines are different. Not to mention the challenges and anxiety of navigating around the bigger school.

Many of our students also bring with them the anxiety and chronic stress that living in poverty causes.

These combination locks will provide all of our fifth graders with practice before they go to middle school. We have lockers in our school, and the students will be able to master them without all the additional stressors of starting middle school.

Help us to remove one stressor and give these students the chance to enter middle school with confidence. Some of the locks we are asking for are a little easier to navigate for students who may struggle with the conventional combination lock.
