Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education students in La Puente, California. My students are facing economic as well as cognitive and social challenges. My students love to learn when they have materials and sensory items to help them regulate their bodies.
My students love to move and the tradional classroom limits this.
I provide physical movement and brain breaks during thier day . They love to explore through science . We build robots out of recycled materials and bring their thoughts to life.
My Project
Some students can get through a day fine socially, academically, and behaviorally, My students are stretching themselves to get to that point each day. They need sensory regulation to regroup and regulate their body to deal with what we look at as normal daily. Line up in the cafeteria, wait for a turn on the slide or swing, use the restroom with unfamiliar sounds around them. THESE ITEMS WILL SERVE AS TOOLS TO HELP MY STUDENTS REGULATE THEIR BODIES TO ENABLE THEM TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR Educational goals and social interactions.
