My classroom consists of a diverse population, from all over the world. Many of them are English Language Learners, come from low income families and are growing up in inner city neighborhoods. At school they are provided with free breakfast and lunch and many of them are given backpacks of food every Friday to ensure they are fed over the weekend.
Despite the obstacles they face daily outside of school, they continue to show up eager to learn.
I consider my students to be the most caring, generous, understanding and helpful children that I know. They deserve the best education regardless of where they come from. When they enter my classroom, they feel safe and know they have the opportunity to find their strengths through engaging, hands-on learning.
My goal is to provide the necessary resources for an exciting and rich learning experience, especially for those who lack that opportunity in their home environment. If my students are fortunate enough to obtain these types of resources, this will help them develop the skills needed to be and feel successful. This will give them exposure to new types of learning.
My Project
When the students pick out a good book, they are always looking for a comfy spot to read. Having these comfy floor seats will create a comfortable space for them to read rather than sitting on the cold floor. We are also in need of a bookshelf to store all of our wonderful books on display. School is the only place some of my students have access to books.
Having this bookshelf will encourage children to seek out a good book and having materials to enhance their learning.
My students are in need of STEM materials to encourage and foster independent learning and problem solving.
It will give them the opportunity to think critically while using their creative thinking skills. They need dry erase markers and crayons to use during instruction. They need number lines to utilize while solving math equations independently and helping them to feel successful.
