My Project
My fifth-grade students love to learn about history and the world around them. They enjoy reading about the American Revolution and the World Wars, and they constantly seek new information to expand their knowledge. The two books I’m raising funds to buy for my students have different historical contexts.
Many students are not aware of the role enslaved people had during the American Revolution.
These perspectives are often undocumented and left out of history. It is important to teach students all perspectives, especially given the world and times in which we live.
In addition, a large percentage of my students are very interested in the civil rights movement and life after segregation. It is important for my students to understand that fairness and equality have been problems for many, many generations.
These novel studies will open different ways for my students to think about our world and create empathetic students. I’m deeply appreciative of everyone who has taken the time to read and support this worthwhile cause!
