My students are in a low-income area, parents work a lot in order to support them. It is difficult for parents to take time off to be in the school. I grew up in this community and faced many of the challenges that my students face every day. I chose to teach here with the hopes of inspiring at least one child. The students at our school have so much potential!
Every year my students love to help each other succeed, they assist me in creating a classroom that cares!
I am in awe of the things they do to help each other daily.
The students at this school are becoming very excelled at technology, they are always teaching me new things. Our school now has 1 to 1 technology and the students are loving it. They are taking ownership of their learning.
My Project
My students have been working on creating a classroom community. I would like to help them extend this to the community they live in. Kids love to compete in step challenges, I would love to inspire my students to be active and healthy while competing in a friendly competition.
The UNICEF Kid Power Bands will allow them to track their fitness activities while earning points that they can trade in to give back to their community.
Our faculty has been competing in step challenges for the past year and it has increased our activity level, I can only imagine how the incentive of giving back to the community would increase it further.
More than half of students from low‑income households
