Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.-David Warlick
Now the newest technology lives on people's wrists or in their pocket.
My students are 2nd graders that have been accepted into the Gifted and Talented academy for our district.
Being young and identified as gifted they should be challenged in academics and technology. Most of my students do not have computers at home, which means students need to learn about technology and resources in the classroom. Students learn how to work collaboratively with each other through online resources, but are also provided some opportunities to have fun on the computers.
My Project
Children now a days, as well as adults, seem to be less active looking for a lazy way to do something. A lot of what needs to be done at school is sitting down and not being active and I want to change how students are working and learning in their classrooms. Students need to get up and move and engage their bodies and brain, so I would like to implement a challenge to my 2nd grade students of appropriate steps every day, then use that data to track students and create fun math activities for their teachers with.
As a technology teacher I can only teach so much basics, I rather teach them with data and activities they can interact with. Having students wear different types of pedometers and tracking using Google Sheets and write about it on Google Docs I can show more about the programs with their own data and experiences. Showing them how to use a program will not make them learn it, but having them do an activity about themselves in the program will help them learn and remember it.
Having students wear pedometers will help them want to be more active and learn the appropriate ways to move and learn in class.
They will be able to track their own data and learn programs they are going to need for the rest of their education by doing little projects based on their own data. I believe working collaboratively with the classroom teacher and having technology with movement will help the students excel in all areas of their education.
