This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"A word is dead when it is said, some say. I say it just begins to live that day." Emily Dickinson. I have an amazing group of 2nd graders who are just realizing how important it is to be able to express themselves through words. All of my students enter school with a very limited English Vocab.
Most of my students are immigrants who lack English vocabulary.
Their families have limited formal education and need much support to excel in school. 100% of my students receive free meal plans and they lack exposure to much needed technology, which can enhance their learning.
My Project
Our class needs a laptop to facilitate vocabulary images. These images will enable my second language learners to learn English in a rapid and retentive way. Visual imagery will assist my students in learning word meanings and in making better predictions and inferences. Vocabulary images will inspire my students to converse with confidence. We will use technology to preview selected words in our class reading stories. We will also use it as a method to assess what vocabulary words my students know and support those students who have not mastered them.
Learning vocabulary is very important for my students to succeed in their reading and school.
The more words they know, the more they will be able to understand what they hear and read. These understandings can determine their future education journey as we expect all of our students to be on the path of going to college. Please support our students in their learning. Thank you!!!
