Getting Down to Basics

My Students

My students attend a high poverty school in an urban area. They come from many different backgrounds, and each offer a unique piece to our classroom. They learn from each other everyday and appreciate what makes each member of the class unique. They are excited and motivated third graders who can't wait to discover more out in the world! With support this year, they will grow to be more independent and will become more confident and excited about learning in their community.

My Project

In every classroom basic supplies are a key component. kids needs pencils to write, erasers to erase, and paints to paint. To give some extra excitement to the writing process this year, my students will earn extra special erasers and pencils that they can use each day. The goal is to take their interests (animals, Pokemon, sports) and spruce up the writing process by giving them Pokemon pencils and erasers, animal erasers, fun feather pens and more. We also need some basic supplies including new dividers for our writing binders, multicultural paints for painting portraits, and a fresh pack of post its for use during reading and writing. In order for kids to learn successfully they need to feel comfortable in their classroom and have some buy in. They are amazing kids who are about to take off as writers!
