This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Established in 1979, our school provides educational and support services for children with hearing or vision loss in our school system. Some of the students have additional challenges that magnify the impact of the vision or hearing loss. Each of the students has special needs and requires extensive technology and assistance to succeed in a school setting.
Students attend classes at one of three locations: the elementary, middle, or high school campus.
In addition, itinerant services are provided throughout our county for students whose disability is not severe enough to require full-time placement at one of the campuses. Services are also provided in several area counties.
My Project
Our students love getting their hands dirty and making a mess!
The potting soil will be used around campus for various projects!
We have an outdoor garden that is wheelchair accessible and needs more dirt! Our students have loved getting their hands in the dirt and planting various vegetables! This Fall they grew collards, greens, and a variety of lettuce. After watching it grow from tiny sprouts, they were able to EAT the vegetables! We would love to do a spring garden but need more soil before we can begin to grow new veggies for them to try!
We will also use the soil to help replenish the flower beds the students have helped plant. They flowers make the campus so pretty and the students love knowing they are apart of this!
