Getting Crafty While Extending Our Learning!

My students need a Cricut Explore Air, tissue paper, and cardstock to extend their art creations in our classroom.

My Students

My students are creative with vivid imaginations. They need a way to take their designs and bring them to life! My first graders attend a Title I school that is considered high poverty. I have a diverse body of students in one room that spans over 10 different countries. In the classroom we have a wide range of students who are hands-on and visual learners. We differentiate our academic activities, but we need materials that allow us to differentiate our creative learning environment.

My students need sensory and art supplies and materials to extend their academic learning.

My Project

My first graders are excited, little learners! They are also kiddos that need various techniques of learning our academic content in math, literacy, writing, and science. We like to sing, dance, and use centers daily. My kiddos "light up" when we are able to extend our learning by creating a project or craft. We try to incorporate crafts and projects as much as possible, but sometimes we are limited to the little supplies we have. Being a Title I school, additional classroom supplies are very hard to come by. And my kiddos only attend art class every six weeks!

Research has proven that students are more engaged in their learning when sensory activities or art are incorporated into the academic content.

It would be amazing if we had enough materials to incorporate a weekly project to reflect our learning! Being able to cut out all different materials, like this tissue paper and cardstock, will also let us explore different textures. Having a Cricut machine in the classroom will also save us a lot of time when preparing projects that support our curriculum and enhance our learning.

Throughout the year, we will be able to use the Cricut to design bulletin boards, thematic projects, and memory scrapbooks at the end of the year! The possibilities are endless with all the fun things we will be able to accomplish with a new Cricut!
