Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a diverse group of smart and silly 6th grade students at a bilingual public school in Washington, D.C. Many of my students are immigrants, English language learners, and special education students.
My students are resilient, talented, and hungry to learn.
Many have overcome myriad challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, housing insecurity, violence in the community, and economic hardship. Yet, they show up to school day after day ready to give their best.
My Project
My students have complex lives and often come to school with a lot on their minds. Flexible seating will allow my students to emotionally self-regulate so that they can show up to class ready to learn and do their best.
These bean bags will provide a comfy and inviting space in my classroom for students to relax and recharge.
Students love to hang out in my classroom library, but there is not enough seating space for them. Having a cozy and safe area of the class will provide my students with flexibility and comfort whether they are taking a mental break by themselves or working in small groups.
