Help me give my students a cozy corner. The transition into school can trigger separation anxiety for many students. The cozy corner is a place in the classroom where students can go to relax, breath and read.
Like most preschoolers, many of my students have never been in a school setting before. The beginning of this school year is a big transition for them. Many students have been at home with their parents and siblings the majority of the year (even more so recently due to Covid).
The students in my classroom come from a multicultural neighborhood in Brooklyn, many of them speak different languages at home.
Our Pre-K program gives children from all cultures, areas, and various incomes the opportunity to explore, socialize and thrive in the classroom.
My Project
Students will be able to lay down and relax on cozy plush rugs and pillows while they take the time to settle into their new classroom. The cozy corner display pictures of their families, books to read and sensory toys to play with. A cozy corner learning center provides a safe place for students to go where they can calm down when they’re feeling mad, sad, nervous, or experiencing any big emotion.
Self-regulation helps children to learn, behave well, get along with others and become independent.
They will love to visit our new and improved cozy corner to practice these important life skills!
