I have students who never cared to write more than 2 sentences on paper, now writing complete paragraphs! This is what technology has done for them. I am determined to keep this going!
I currently work at an inner-city federally funded Title I neighborhood school where over 60% of the children are on free and reduced priced lunch.
I have 20 fourth grade students who are eager to show me their understanding in ways that make sense to them. My students struggle with putting their ideas on paper. Since we started blogging, I am seeing students who love to write. I am seeing students WANT to write. The addition of Chromebooks will give my students more time and more opportunities each day to proudly display their work. They are highly motivated when working with technology and put in 100 percent effort in their work.
My Project
We are currently working on creating a classroom blog to display work and discuss ELA (English language arts) related topics.
With the donation of 3 Chromebooks, my class will be able to use 21st century skills in a 21st century way by sharing their work on our blog.
This is an engaging alternative to pencil and paper writing tasks. Our first assignment will be "Empowering Students Through Art." Each student will choose an idiom, illustrate the phrase using paper or a google drawing app, and post it on our blog. Students will take time to view their peer's artwork and guess what the idiom might be. I believe that my students will thrive when they are able to use technology that they are comfortable with to complete their work. This will provide another outlet for their creativity to shine. I see them in their element. I see them shine. I see them want to work. I see them enjoy learning. I see their confidence rise. I want to continue making learning enjoyable.
