Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school serves about 1,700 9th-12th grade students. More than half of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. My students are true millennials who love relaxed settings and technology. I usually teach about 90 students where roughly 20% have mild learning disabilities and often struggle in the general classroom setting. They often come to my class with a mindset of defeat and do not like math. Every year my goal is to create a fun and comfortable learning space so they are successful in the course.

My Project

The fact that most classrooms look the same now as they did 70 years ago is one of the reasons students often struggle in my school. My students don't know life without constant connectivity, wi-fi, and a global audience. Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices.

Flexible Seating classrooms give students the ultimate choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.

This horseshoe table will assist me while working in student ability groups. The chairs will contribute to student comfort.
