Supplemental learning support is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning social skills. Our group loves to learn, stay positive, and take calming breaks.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are a part of a larger campus that celebrates inclusion. I teach students of many different abilities and learning needs. As my students make gains in the classroom, they are rewarded with small breaks. I would like for my students to make significant progress on their IEP goals using sensory materials. “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.”
My Project
These items will help children with varying disabilities to take a break with sensory items that will help with calming them.
Then they will be able to have breaks to meet their sensory needs so that they can successfully return to learning tasks.
They will be calmed by the comfortable chairs and sensory items that they will be able to use in the sensory area of the classroom.
Many of the children have low body tone and are in need of daily exercise beyond what they are getting at home and one hour of daily physical education. Their bodies need the exercise to help build muscle so that they will have more energy. We currently have a trampoline and exercise bands, but we need more relaxation and calming resources as well. Help us create our sensory area for next school year. Your donation will be used to purchase a bean bag floor pillow for the students to rest on, light filters to create calm classroom lighting, exercise ball chairs to hold our stability exercise balls, and a mood light to help with the students' self soothing needs.
