This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 32 inquisitive students in my third-grade classroom. The majority of our students come from low-income families in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

I teach in a very large (1,200) Title 1 school. Many of my students are second language learners and several require other supports throughout the school day.
All of our wonderfully curious students set goals for themselves and work hard at reaching these goals. This is what inspires me each and every day. It's truly an honor to teach these young people. My wish is to make my classroom a vibrant place for my students. My students are likely to be greatly motivated and engaged if they have the resources available to support them.
My Project
Close your eyes...what does your perfect reading spot look like?
A classroom should be a welcoming place where students are comfortable enough to put all their attention towards learning.
My students love to sit on the floor around the room during reading time, writing, independent work, and even partner work. My students don't want to spend more time sitting at their desks; reading and work time is their chance to choose a comfortable working spot all around the room.
With only straight-back chairs at desks and the hard floor as seating, my students often avoid tasks that require a lot of sitting still, like independent reading practice. With your help, I can provide my students with a comfortable place to sit on the floor and choose a spot to do their best work.
