My Project
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which children learn to recognize and manage their emotions, establish positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and handle challenging situations effectively. In an elementary school setting, SEL is crucial as it lays the foundation for emotional well-being and academic success. One innovative tool that has gained popularity in recent years for promoting SEL is Slumberkins.
What Are Slumberkins?
Slumberkins are a collection of soft, cuddly creatures paired with storybooks that teach important social-emotional skills. Each character in the Slumberkins collection represents a different SEL theme, such as self-esteem, mindfulness, or resilience. The storybooks that accompany each Slumberkin offer relatable scenarios and comforting messages that help children understand and manage their emotions
Promoting Emotional Awareness
One of the key benefits of using Slumberkins in the classroom is that they promote emotional awareness among students. Emotional awareness involves recognizing and understanding one’s emotions as well as the emotions of others. This skill is foundational for building empathy, self-regulation, and healthy relationships. Through the narratives and guided activities provided by Slumberkins, children are encouraged to identify their emotions, express them appropriately, and understand how their feelings influence their behavior.
