My Students

In our urban 6-8th grade school, we support an incredibly diverse group of young people. Our school hosts multiple cultural and ethnic groups. There are 88 separate languages spoken in our school district. In addition to language challenges, our school provides free or reduced price lunch to more than 62% of our students.

My Project

Coming to the library isn't just about book selection and research. Our library is the heart and soul of the school. Students come in and and spend time exploring all kinds of print materials, but they also explore many hands-on activities and explore STEM topics.

Creating a flexible, inviting learning space is critical to help students allow themselves to wonder about the interesting things they can find in the library.

Exploring, wondering, and creating are just as important to learning as reading and research. The goal is to create a library space that allows for all of these things to happen.
