The students I work with on a daily basis are just like other kids, but might not have the same advantages as that other kid. They show up each morning, some happy to be there and others there just because they have to be. Making it through the day without getting in trouble is a good day for a few of them. Not all of them are the best students, and others survive the day waiting for sports practice after school.
Athletics are a big part of the school environment, building school spirit.
Our school has had up years and down, but recently we've struggled. Kids have jobs and can't spend the time needed to participate in extra-curricular activities. The town loves to support the students as well, but many are facing hard times as well. Trying to get students to have a full, great day is difficult some days!
My Project
Part of the school atmosphere is pride. I realize not everyone is into athletics, but a large part of our student body is, or wants to be. We've got some great students who lack self esteem because of their struggles on the athletic fields.
If I can get these items, hopefully that would lead to more success on the basketball court.
The dribbling goggles will help the kids understand how much easier it is to play basketball with your head up. The AllNet Basketball Training Shooting Device, BullsEye Basketball Shooting Training Aid, HoopsKing Wrap Strap Basketball Shooting Aid, ShotSquare Basketball Training Shooting Aid and the Basketball Shooting Aid are all devices that would help form shooting. We struggle with the most important parts of basketball, dribbling and shooting. These all would help our struggles. Also, I included the Pseudois Vertical Jump Trainer that would help athletics across the board at our school.
I know that this was meant for more of a classroom project, but as a coach I think the basketball court is also a classroom for the boys and girls who participate in athletics. Learning leadership, sacrifice, sportsmanship and teamwork are great life lessons!
