My students are special because they're mine. They all have unique gifts that allow them to explore things through their own little minds. Some have a great support system at home, and others fully rely on the individuals from the school community to help make them successful. Most of their homes are not the safest, so we have a duty to provide safety at school.
Success is important for any child to see.
They need to see their own individual growth so they can continue to work towards a better future. We have to change the environment around the school community one child at a time. But in order to do this, they have to believe in themselves, and we have to show that we believe in them also.
Hurricane Harvey was a tough time for our kids. It was detrimental to our city and was also detrimental to our students' academics. We lost 2 weeks of instruction and still have the same deadline for our students to master TEKS and specific skills to get ready for state, district, and grade level challenges.
Technology has played an important part in developing a "born again" love for learning.
My students are using an educational program that has promised to help them master reading, math, and writing skills that teachers, unfortunately, don't have extra time to help with, especially since we lost so many days. We need five Chromebooks. This increased number of computers will encourage growth in a way that allows them to put their newly taught skills into application via technology.
The students can use the Chromebooks at their seats and utilize all academic minutes in computer programs that help build developing areas into proficiency or higher. The students use of the Chromebooks gives them more opportunity for computer time and a new way to show an understanding of the lesson when they can submit lessons online.
