Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is in a low-income, urban area and students are diverse in many ways, including ethnically and economically. Over 85% of our K-5th grade students who attend our school are identified as Title I and many are second language learners. During this time of distant learning, many of the students have had limited support and access to resources at home. The students I support in my Early Intervention Program have been identified as at-risk and are performing far below grade level in reading. They want to learn yet they struggle with confidence, they have learning disabilities, and now due to the pandemic, they are further behind than ever before and challenged with adjusting to returning to school in person, away from their devices.

My Project

As a result of COVID-19, our school has taken as many precautions as possible for the safety and well-being of our students. One such precaution that has impacted my classroom dramatically, is the closure of our copy room. I rely on copies for student work, activities, decodable books, parent correspondence, and many other resources.

My students have spent too much time in front of a screen this past year and they need to pick up a pencil and hold a piece of paper once again.

The printer/copier would allow me to quickly provide resources to my students that meet their specific needs, allow them to be more interactive with their work, and help build their fine motor skills.
