My Students
I am a teacher in a Title I public school, located in Pahoa, Hawaii. Our school serves students from pre-K to 6th grade that come from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
My students are culturally-grounded, inquisitive, and tenacious learners who deserve the materials needed to be successful.
My students come from all areas of lower Puna. Our community has been affected by lava flows, hurricanes, and covid, but that hasnʻt stopped them from coming to school with a positive attitude and zest for learning.
My Project
Who likes to simply read out of a textbook to learn new information? Or would you rather create your own book of the new learning you just acquired? For most of us, we would much rather create our own book to help us process and present information to an audience. That is exactly what my students want to do!
My students would like to create their own handmade books and then be able to publish them in class and bind them on their own!
Whether writing their own poem, or being the author of their own story, my students want to be able to publish their own writings in a way that allows them to share them with their friends, family, and their peers.
The materials requested will allow my students to be the author and illustrators of their own book, series, songs, poems, or anything their 6th-grade hearts and minds desire.
