This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Established in 1979, our school provides educational and support services for children with hearing or vision loss in the MCP School System. Some of the students have additional challenges that magnify the impact of the vision or hearing loss. Each of the students has special needs and requires extensive technology and assistance to succeed in a school setting.
Students attend classes at one of three locations: the elementary campus, middle, or high school.
In addition, itinerant services are provided throughout Mobile County for students whose disability is not severe enough to require full-time placement at one of the campuses. Services are also provided in several area counties.
My Project
Our school serves students with hearing and vision impairments. They learn differently than their friends may, BUT they love learning and being creative!
Our pre-K students need art supplies to utilize their imaginations to create art without limits!
Working with pre-k students means allowing them to use not only paint brushes but their hands as well. These materials will allow the students do dive in hands in first and create masterpieces.
The sharpie markers will be used to draw and outline with a dark contrast, the students ideas. Our visually impaired students often need a dark contrast against the white paper, and the sharpie markers will ensure they can see the picture on the paper.
The water colors and acrylic paints will be used for the pre-k students to create their masterpieces. Watching the students sit down and begin painting is an amazing experience. Some need guiding, while others work their magic independently! We go through tons of paints and these materials will help replenish them. Students can utilize all of their senses using a variety of watercolor paper and paint to make their vision come to life.
The modeling magic will be used with our visually impaired students. The modeling clay will give the students a hands-on experience which will allow them to feel their art work. Some of our students are unable to see their artwork so this will be a wonderful addition to our art room materials!
Our pre-k sensory impaired students are faced with a variety of daily challenges. Producing art should not be one of them! These materials will give them a wonderful sensory experience and expand their creativity at an early age!
