My students need soft basketballs so that they are easier to toss into the basketball goals. I am hoping this gives them more confidence and will keep trying.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Getting Active in a cool way is what we are aiming at every day.

My students are from predominantly Hispanic low-income families.

They are full of energy and love. Every day they compliment each other, make each other laugh, and are very caring. It doesn't matter that they do not have much, they don't know that. What they do know is love! And I love them for that!

My Project

We will use the basketballs to play a variety of toss and catch games. First we will start with tossing in a low bucket. Working on aiming. Next they will work on catching with a partner. This is always fun, because they want to throw everything over each others heads. Having the soft balls, will eliminate the bounce of the ball, which is key for me, teaching 5 year old students.

The donations will help my classroom by giving my kids equipment that is safe and easier for them to handle.

Tossing a hard basketball into the air for the basket, landing on another students head is not good, so the soft ball will help the kids focus on the task at hand, and not be afraid of the ball.
