This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Preschoolers are not built to sit still for long periods of time. They need motion, novelty, adventure, and to engage the world with their whole body. Riding a tricycle is not only fun but it will help my students develop their brain and their large muscles as well.

My preschoolers are a wonderful group of 24 children, they are three and four-years-old and eager to learn.

They have limited educational resources at home because they come from low-income households but they are very enthusiastic learners and happy children! My goal is to provide them with a positive environment at school where they can develop their natural curiosity and desire to learn about the world. When we are getting ready to go to the playground they get so excited because they know that they will have the freedom to run, jump, walk, or ride a tricycle with their peers. It is the most important time of the day for my students because they get to divert the surplus energy they have in their systems by getting active.

My Project

I'm requesting a tricycle to help my students stay active while they are at preschool. Riding a tricycle gives them the ability to move in a coordinated way using their large muscles (arms and legs). The tricycle offers them more balance and lesser chances of falling down. Once they learn to ride it, they also gain an immense feeling of confidence and pride in themselves. This is a very important developmental milestone that most children reach at the age of three. At our school, we take turns to go out to the playground to minimize the amount of children out at once. However, we are always short in tricycles. There are 5 or 6 available for as many as 50 children. Of course, not all the children want to ride a tricycle at the same time but we see many waiting for a turn and this creates a problem sometimes.

Most of our students live in apartments and their only safe outdoor playtime is at school.

Having one more tricycle will enhance their experience even more. Getting active is an essential need, please consider donating to our project. Your donation will mean a lot to the children we serve.
