Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I'm a planner, and so I'm already looking ahead to next year to see how I can improve my craft.
I've learned over years of teaching that the right materials can inspire engaged, deep learning.
Take the easel pads in this project - they allow me to create teams of students who will collaborate on creative work together. This year we used them to create full-color illustrated maps of the Columbian Exchange and to collect data to create line plots, among other projects, all of them proudly displayed in the hallway. The making tape we use for a geometry project where students intersect lines on a table and then measure the angles, creating triangles and quadrilaterals. Even the most ordinary materials can foster collaborative, imaginative, hands-on learning!
And we end our days with a game time (to participate, they must first finish up their daily assignments), and Klask is by far the most powerful motivator I've ever known! We have the two-player game but the four-player version will build us to peak excitement (to complete our learning tasks for the day). Just about anything can be turned to good educational use in our lively classroom!
