My Students
Some of my students have never been in a classroom before this year and are not sure how to act. However, we expect them as five- and six-year-olds to sit still either in whole group on the rug, small group at the teacher's table, or individually at their seats throughout the day. This is very hard for most of these children who are used to running loose all day, every day with little or no structure within their day.
We are a Title I school with limited funds for individual classroom needs.
Yet, these babies come to us filled with energy and eager to take in everything we have tell and show them. We need the support and materials to provide these children with opportunities to grow and reach their maximum potential while they are with us.
My Project
Flexible seating is one of the first steps I want to give my students. Stability balls help strengthen core muscles that are needed for these little growing bodies. The rolling and bouncing motions offer my students opportunity to get their wiggles out while we are working throughout the day. The rocking chair may provide comfort to those who are used to being rocked by a loved one at home. I know that not all students learn the same, and I want to help them reach their greatest potential. These flexible seating options provide flexibility to various learning styles that will help them reach their potential.
