In our 4th grade special education classroom we are a team on a mission to expand our horizons and create new opportunities by learning about our world, our community and ourselves.
Learning for my students is not always easy.
Each child has their own unique challenges that we work hard to address and make learning possible, progressive and enjoyable. Our classroom is a safe and caring place where learning is experienced in an active and interactive way. Sometimes we can be heard singing what we are learning, sometimes we whisper to each other our new found knowledge, sometimes we quietly read stretched out on our yoga mats. Always we are looking for ways to be involved in our learning and work towards meeting our individual goals. Despite our lack of resources, I think you would smile if you looked in our window and saw the good and exciting things we are up to.
My Project
We know that having Chromebooks in our classroom will help us in meeting our learning goals. There are so many wonderful websites that we can access that present information in many different ways, and can meet the many ways we learn. There are free apps that will help us read, write, create, collaborate and share.
We will use them to research and capture what we have learned. We will take this new information and create projects to demonstrate what we have learned. Some of the projects we are looking forward to creating are blogging, podcasting, video production, song writing and recording, book commercials, graphics and animations. What is so cool, in addition to creating all these projects, is that we can share them with our peers and families so easily.
With the success of this DonorsChoose.org project, I think when you next look in our window you will not only smile but will want to come on in and join us on our exciting learning journey.
The students in our 4th grade special education classroom not only have challenges with learning, they also have economic challenges.
Providing thoughtful and beneficial access to technology will help with leveling the playing field educationally and provide access to an important tool that they wouldn't otherwise have access to. This access will be a critical first step towards a bright future for our children.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
