In our PreK classroom we immediately begin learning the alphabet two weeks after school begins. We learn each upper-case letter name, lower case letter name and each letter sound. Although we are learning the entire alphabet throughout the year, we concentrate on one letter each week.
One of the alphabet projects we do is an Alphabet Handprint Book for each student.
Each letter has its own object that begins with that letter. These objects are made out of the students' handprint. For example: A would be a handprint designed to look like an alligator, K would be a handprint that looks like a kite, etc. We use the large washable ink pads to stamp their hands on the paper.
These books are wonderful keepsakes for students and parents.
