I need to attend professional development to give me fresh, creative ideas in order to challenge my students and make them successful readers and writers.
Year after year, the most dedicated First grade students are placed in my room. I am always so impressed by these young minds who come to me knowing just letters and sounds, but leave me reading and writing paragraphs! It really is the most rewarding feeling to know that I am teaching hundreds of students something that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives, ultimately creating doctors, scientists, teachers and so many other important professions that shape our world!
From the very first day of school, my students are required to hit the ground running into the most critical journey of their entire educational career -- learning how to read.
They work so hard each and every day to reach some of the highest expectations we set before them. I continue to strive every year to make this an enjoyable experience for them. I want my students to look back and remember First grade to be the place where their passion for reading and learning began. The training I would receive would help me to do just that and would benefit every single student that walks into my classroom -- both now and in the future.
My Project
I have been a First grade teacher for eight years now and the standards for teaching reading and writing continue to become more rigorous each year. I truly believe that first grade is one of the most important grades, as it is laying the foundation for all other school years to come. Our emphasis on writing has also become an integral part of our First grade standards. My students are challenged from the very beginning to use their knowledge of reading and phonics to compose sentences and eventually paragraphs! This can often be a difficult task for my students entering First grade.
Attending this conference will give me the tools needed to create engaging lessons and give both present and future students confidence and eagerness to become awesome readers and writers!
At the Get Your Teach On conference, I will be hearing from some of the most knowledgeable educators from different parts of the country who have proven themselves to be experts in the early education field. Therefore, this conference will directly impact my first grade students, as well as my team members. I will share with them what I have learned from the conference so that they too can encourage their students to become life long readers and writers!
My passion for teaching students how to read becomes stronger with each passing year. Being a strong reader is directly linked to becoming a strong writer. I am grateful for the chance to grow as an educator and develop passionate readers and writers!
