Help me give my students in their engineering course get their motor running! We will be completing technical drawings using the colored pencils from the motor kits as well as dimensioning when they are home.
Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over 70% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is as our principal states, "deliciously diverse." As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics. We are a STEM certified school within the township. Our school is on the west side of a major city and many times these students are unable to travel outside of the city. We are currently attempting to create cross curricular lessons among all departments to not only represent the STEM focus, but also the literacy piece. My students specifically are in a dual credit engineering course.
My Project
My students will use the motor kits to introduce electrical engineering. Students need to physically see how a DC motor works. Students need to understand because many of them have never been introduced to the topic or idea of electricity. Electricity runs our world whether it is our AC unit in our home or the creation of electricity via windmills. We currently are in a hybrid learning situation and learning has to occur both inside and outside the classroom. The students will be taking the tape measures home and measuring particular objects. They will then dimension those objects and create technical drawings. The colored pencils will help enhance those drawings.
