it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's often said that as we grow older, we begin to get less curious. My students defy this. As the school year goes on, they get more curious as they make connections between concepts and start looking at the world in new ways.
My students are curious and creative problem solvers who make insightful observations as they engage with and learn from each other.
I teach at a Title I school with a diverse population of students who show me every day that, if given the chance, they will rise to the occasion.
My Project
As a science teacher, student safety is really important to me. Everyday I am responsible for over two hundred students and it's my job not just to teach them to be scientists, but also to teach them how to stay safe while doing so. However, this can be difficult when your safety goggles are starting to break down due to old age.
Students learn science by doing science, and in order to ensure my students can continue to engage in hands-on labs and projects, our class needs a set of chemical splash goggles.
My students love hands-on science and they themselves recognize that not only is it fun, but it helps them understand the science concepts we're learning about. From vinegar and baking soda rockets to water quality testing of aquaponic systems, these hands-on experiences serve to deepen their knowledge and understanding of what science is and how science is done. But if it's not safe we can't do it, and I want to make sure my students have every possible opportunity open to them.
