My Students

Our library is the heart of our learning. As an inner-city school in South Carolina, our students are diverse in ethnicity, income, and learning styles. Forty-six percent of our students receive free or reduced price lunch.

As a teacher and librarian, I'm committed to support the creative and design development of our students.

The school library is a unique and essential part of our learning community. In addition to resources like books, I want to provide hands-on activities that encourage our students to explore a design thinking process; which is to observe, understand, explore, experiment and test. These activities will prepare our learners for college, career and life. The ability to inquire, explore and engage are essential for student success. I want to encourage our students to explore and engage. With a diverse population, we want to provide materials of substance to appeal to our students and develop an enjoyment of creativity.

My Project

The hands-on materials in this requested Geofix Classroom Kit will inspire our students in the design thinking process of exploring, understanding, experimenting and testing. These are all skills that prepare our students for college, career, and life.

Geofix will get our students building geometric models and interested in the way things work.

These rich problem-solving activities help students build understanding by actively engaging in tasks and experiences designed to deepen and connect their knowledge. Playing math games affords students the opportunity to build understanding while encouraging strategic thinking as students will have different approaches for solving problems.

Geofix shapes are a powerful tool for addressing many geometric concepts. From something as simple as shape recognition to creating complex 3-D figures, these click-together shapes provide a hands-on tool that brings math to life.
