My third grade students are eager to grow into 21st century learners and are motivated by the technology of today. They have both the academic and social skills to be successful in jobs that haven't yet been created.
The third graders in my class are like sponges and enjoying learning new things.
They are very active children and enjoy getting up and moving when learning. They love to socialize and work together. Collaboration is a key to their success.
My students are dedicated, unique and kind, so it is my goal to give them every opportunity that I can to make them successful. I want to instill in them a love of learning that they can take with them when they leave my classroom
My Project
Every year I wrestle with what to give to my students for "morning work". Students trickle into my classroom as they are dropped off by parents, buses and finish eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Some students arrive have have 30 minutes to work while others arrive right as the tardy bell rings.
This year I want to provide my students time to socialize and build friendships during the first part of their day by providing them games, blocks and art to choose from.
Students will get prepared for the day and then choose an activity to participate in; a game with a few peers, a coloring sheet with a partner, write a letter to a favorite teacher or build a castle with blocks.
Providing my students time to socialize prior to beginning lessons will allow them to build community and collaborate with each other. Students that arrive to class as the bell rings will not feel rushed to complete missed work and will be motivated to get to class earlier so they can "play" with their peers.
