Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten students are attending a Title 1 school in Antioch, CA, where the majority come from low income families. Approximately 90% of the student population receives free or reduced price breakfast and lunch. My students come to school happy and eager to learn each day and know that our classroom is a safe place where they are valued and loved. About half of the students in my classroom are English Language Learners, with those students being predominantly Spanish speaking.
My Project
Many of the students in my classroom do not have access to many books. School is the only place where they are able to hold a book or have someone read a story to them. Help us get some new books to get them excited about reading and get a new CD player so that they can listen to stories during our centers.
I am also asking for more flexible seating options, so that my students will have the choice of where they want to sit each day.
We currently have four different choices and the students love being able to pick where they want to sit each week!
